What's new in the Ducati Garage?

June 9, 2007

Unfortunately I have run out of time to keep this site updated with fresh content.  The website was started during a strangely idle period of my life in 1999 & 2000 when I had plenty of time to ride and to build simple HTML web pages.

However, I will at least try and edit what pages are already loaded on this site and add a few updates now and then.  Thanks for visiting and of course, ride safely!

Stuff for Sale
This is my wife's favorite part of this site. If it's listed for sale, it has been sitting in our garage for over 1 year without being moved. Warning - items may not be related to motorcycles, so cover your eyes, it may be ugly!

FOR SALE:

Porsche 944 Turbo oil cooler kit. Fits all 1986-1989 Turbos and works in series with the wimpy factory cooler. Essential for any car that will be driven on the track or in warm climates. Brand new, never installed. $225.

Honda 4x100mm wheel spacers by H&R. Complete set of 4. Spaces wheel out by 25mm, so it has new studs integrated into the aluminum spacer. Should fit all 4 lug Civic, Integra, Accord models. Perfect for anyone running fender flares or a widebody kit. Used once for the 2003 SEMA show, then removed from our show vehicle. $200 for the set of 4.

(All items are located in Ventura, California and can be shipped by UPS.

Goodbye 916, hello Super Moto!
If you are a frequent or infrequent visitor to this site, you'll notice that the editorial content stopped. Basically two things happened. First, I completed most of the modifications that I wanted to make on my bikes. Second, there was some buying and selling of bikes, with the net effect being that the last Ducati in my garage found a new owner a few years ago.

It started when I got an offer for the 900 Superlight that I couldn't refuse. With the money gained from that sale, I picked up a 1995 Aprilia RS250 Loris Reggiani replica with a California title, a used Yamaha TTR-250 enduro bike, and another Aprilia, a 1998 RS250 Challenge bike that is now for sale. At the zenith of bike ownership, I had a total of 6 bikes (Ducatis and Aprilias) in the garage sharing my Battery Tender.

I was having such a good time riding the RS250s at track days that I basically stopped taking the Ducatis to the track altogether. Then I sold the 900 Monster. That left the 916 as the last lonely Ducati in the garage. I had vowed to keep this bike forever, but I half-heartedly put a classified ad into Bob Cowin's Ducati Index back in an attempt to raise money for something exotic like a Bimota V-Due. In a few months, the 916 was sold.

For 2 years I only had the RS250 Challenge bike and road it at track days sporatically. I stopped riding on the street altogether. In September 2006 I finally returned to the street with a Suzuki DRZ400SM super motard bike. I've did a few motard track days with the Suzuki, some local canyon carving, and then converted it to dirt. Now it's being used for dirt riding exclusively.

But the big news of late is the return of a Ducati to the garage. The adventure started with the discovery of a pristine 1993 Superlight for sale in Colorado. This bike was a perfect, low mileage example and nicer than my former Superlight #712. After some serious soul searching and a couple of long discussions with my wife, I decided to pass on the purchase. However a month later I discovered a clean 2001 Monster 900 Sie that was practically a visual twin to my original 1994 Monster project bike. With the exception of fuel injection on the 2001, you would be hard pressed to spot the major diffences between the two bikes. I tend to keep my ideas about God, fate, and destiny private, but the chances of finding two bikes like these within 30 days of each other was some sort of message. Plus, the Vatican is located in Italy, so it helped that these were both Ducatis.

To cut to the end of the story, the Monster is now in my garage as I take care of the routine service and the suspension setup. Pics and more tech stories will hopefully be on the way!
